This shawl is an elongated crescent-shaped shawl with generous wingspan. Worked in three main sections, Thistle begins at the top with a garter tab cast on and garter stitch section, then transitions to a honeycomb textured stitch section, followed by a yarn over mesh lace pattern, culminating in a delicate chevron lace border. Increases are made along the top edge of the shawl throughout the first section. The picot bind-off creates a lovely finish to this project. (This pattern was written in one size for sport weight yarns, but could be adapted to smaller/larger dimensions using lighter/heavier yarns.)

This pattern is suitable for relatively new knitters and experienced knitters alike—the texture and lace patterns are fun to knit, yet not overly complicated.

YARN
The sample pictured was knitted using Lichen and Lace RUSTIC HEATHER SPORT, a minimally processed (non-superwash), and naturally dyed rustic sport weight yarn in these shades:
Main Color (MC) - Pollen (3 skeins)
Contrast Color (CC) - Birch (1 skein)
Each skein is approximately 215 yards / 56 grams.

Note that this is a very rustic yarn, and may be too woolly for the faint of heart!

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
• size US 4 / 3.5mm circular needle
• tapestry needle, blocking tools

GAUGE and SIZE
This pattern is written for yarn that knits to a gauge of approx. 5 stitches per inch after blocking. (RUSTIC HEATHER SPORT is classified as a sport weight yarn; a light DK yarn could also be used.) Please note that, as with many shawl patterns, gauge is not critical. You may wish to watch with different needle sizes in order to achieve a knit fabric that has the right drape and feel.

The wingspan of this shawl after blocking measures approximately 70 inches; height of the shawl is 17 inches. (Pattern includes a schematic.)
