ABOUT
Written in 5 sizes for the whole family, the Thorncliff Toque has a ribbed slip stitch brim for a stretchy, yet snug, fit, and a textured stitch throughout the body. The yarn used in this design is a soft, self-striping, gradient yarn that will take care of all the colorwork for you!

MATERIALS
Yarn: Light Bulky/Heavy Worsted—Lion Brand Scarfie in Cream/Taupe

  • 78% acrylic, 22% wool
  • 312 yds (285 m) per 5.3 oz (150 g) skein
  • Find this yarn on lionbrand.com or visit yarnsub.com to find comparable substitutes

Yardage: 1 skein of Scarfie (all sizes), or
130, 160, 175, 190, 215) yds
119 (147, 160, 174, 197) m

Substitute Lion Brand Scarfie with any similar category 5 (bulky) weight yarn or category 4 (worsted) medium weight yarn that matches gauge. Note that this yarn is labeled a “bulky” but feels more like a worsted. Always swatch with your chosen yarn and hook combination before beginning to ensure you are happy with the resulting fabric.

Hook: Size U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Tapestry needle, locking stitch marker to mark BOR

PATTERN NOTES
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Turning Chain: The turning chain does not count as a stitch.

Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each row/rnd. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous row/rnd.

Right Side: The “right side” of the fabric is the side facing you while you are crocheting the body.

Crocheting the Center Single Crochet (csc) Stitch: The center single crochet stitch is worked the same way as a regular single crochet stitch—the only difference is the placement of your hook. Insert your hook in between the two posts of your designated stitch, rather than underneath the front and back loops of the stitch. The stitch pattern created from this unique hook placement creates the appearance of stacked V’s that resemble the look of knitting.
If you’re having trouble or if it’s feeling tight, try pulling your loop up a little higher than you normally would before working your final yarn-over to make it a little easier for you to work into this stitch on the following round. Keep your tension loose for this stitch.
