THORSBANE MONSTER

Thorsbane came into being when I had the idea to create a monster for my husband based on his love of all things Viking & Norse mythology.
This pattern includes runes from the Elder Futhark, that I looked up to fit specifically with my version of Thorsbane, Raido for travel, Algiz for courage & Sowilo for strength. I also used a combined rune for creation on his forehead. The Rune Brand includes Algiz, Sowilo, & Thurisaz (meaning defense, protection & conflict). The runes that I used were significant to my original creation. The runes can be changed to fit your interpretation, or left out entirely.

MATERIALS:
5mm hook, 4.5mm hook, 3.5mm hook
Worsted weight yarn - tan for the head/body & limbs (I used buff fleck) - brown & dark gray for the horns - black for the belt
DK weight yarn - medium brown for the eye circles - red for tongue & bracers - gray for Mjolnir scar
Fun fur or something fuzzy in brown for the pelt, if you don’t have this you can use brown worsted weight and just brush it a bit to make it furry before attaching it.
A small amount of scrap fabric to create the loincloth.
Safety eyes in blue or red
Embroidery floss in red, black, blue & light blue or white
Felt in black, white, gray & light blue
Leather cord or some string & bone shaped beads for the necklace (these are optional)
Something to use as the belt buckle ( I used a gear shaped charm)
Black feather (this is optional, I chose to add it to signify a connection to Odin)
