Gifted with powerful magical abilities to bring joy and happiness, the three good fairies arrive at Aurora’s christening to bestow gifts upon the baby in Sleeping Beauty (1959). When Maleficent appears and curses the newborn, the three fairies decide to temporarily abandon their magical ways and live as mortals for sixteen years, hiding Aurora away in the forest and raising her as their own. Dressed in medieval-inspired gowns in their signature colors—Flora in red, Fauna in green, and Merryweather in blue— the fairies wear pointy hats, have fluttering wings, and wield magical wands (when they’re not disguised as peasants). While each fairy has a distinctive personality (Merryweather is pragmatic, Fauna optimistic, and Flora the leader), together they make a great team and do their best to keep Briar Rose (Aurora) secret and safe.

Inspired by Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, this pink, green, and blue matching socks and mittens set will keep the wearer safe and warm for as many years as it takes to wait out an evil curse. The socks are knit in the round from the cuff down beginning with a twisted 2x2 rib. Stranded colorwork fairies fly across the leg with the basic shape of each fairy worked across the rounds with the hair, eyes, scarves, and petticoats added postknitting with duplicate stitching. Waste yarn is used to put heel stitches on hold, and the rest of the sock is knit to the toe with the remaining stitches grafted together. An afterthought heel is added, followed by the duplicate stitch details. The matching mittens are worked from the bottom up with a matching twisted rib cuff. Once the main part of the mitten is complete, an afterthought thumb is added, as well as duplicate stitch detailing.
