The hat is worked from the brim to the crown. It is knit in the round in two-colour brioche and garter stitch to make a lightly slouchy beanie.

Hat Specifications:

Sizes: S / M / L / XL
Size: 36cm / 40cm / 44 cm / 49 cm
Fits: teen & adult xs / small to medium adult / medium to large adult / extra large adult
Fits head circumfrence: 38-51cm / 42-54cm / 46-59cm / 51-64cm

Remember that brioche is very stretchy, so one hat will fit a range of head sizes.

Gauge: approx: 18 stitches in 10 cm and 7 rows in 3 cm in ribbed brioche (measuring gauge in ribbed brioche is tricky. Remember to measure the fabric when it is relaxed). See http://www.briochestitch.com/archives/onecolorbrioche/cou

Materials:

  • two colours of worsted weight yarn, approx 50g for each colour. I’ve used slightly less than that for my M and XL sample knits.

  • 4mm circular needles (about 40 – 50cm / 16” length for working in the round, longer if you wish to work using the magic loop technique)

  • 4 mm double-pointed needles (or your preferred method for working in small rounds at the top of the hat)

  • larger needles or straight needles for casting on, depending on your preferred cast-on method

  • 4 stitch markers (1 marker for marking beginning of round, 3 markers for marking pattern repeats)

  • Scissors and darning needles for finishing
