Through the Window Mini Bag
A free version is also available.
This adorable little bag was originally designed as a soap cozy, where you place a bar of soap in it and use it in the shower to exfoliate with and make your bar of soap go further, but these mini bags are also perfect as candy pouches for parties, as small gift bags and even as a coin purse.
Materials:
- 70 Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Optional, Jewelry Pliers
Material Notes:
I’ve made several samples of this little bag. My original bag was made with Lily Sugar n Cream in the White and Psychedelic colorways. For Halloween treat bags, I turned to Lily Sugar n Cream in the White, Black and Creamsicle colorways, WeCrochet Dishie in the the White, Crème Brulee and Clementine colorways and Circulo Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6 in the Black and Pumpkin colorways. I’ve done an additional sample in Queensland Coastal Cotton in a blue and white combination.
My favorite way to work this stitch pattern is by using a variegated yarn as the background color and a coordinating color over top of it as the main color, but over the years, I’ve enjoyed working many samples in a single solid color as the back- ground color, or two solid colors to resemble stripes. The possibilities are endless!
Now, do you need to use a cotton yarn? Not at all! I love the durability and versatility of cotton yarn, but you can use your favorite worsted weight yarn from your stash. Keep in mind, cotton creates a more relaxed fabric, so if you opt for something like acrylic or wool, you’ll want to size up on your crochet hook.
Note: The feedback I’ve received for this bag as a soap cozy is that with it’s solid fabric and thicker yarn, it does take a while to dry so keep this in mind if you intend to use it this way. Perhaps, consider using a lighter weight yarn, or a cotton blend with a fast drying fiber, like bamboo.
Weaving in ends of a tough yarn, like cotton yarn, can be hard on the fingers. Sore thumbs and frustration can be a thing of the past by simply using jewelry pliers to carefully help pull the tapestry needle through the work.

Updates:
10/14/26: Added “the” into a few places so the sentences read better. The drawstring tie instructions specified to use the color Psychedelic, so I just changed that to the Background Color to match the phrasing of the pattern. In filming the video tutorial, I realized the repeat was incorrect and should be 18, not 16, so I corrected this. Round 29 stated to chain 1 after the turn, but the round starts with a chain so I removed this to correct. Also, I added the missing final stitch counts to the end of the repeat rounds for easy referencing.
