A couple months ago when trips to the yarn store were a no-go, I had the vision of this square (with a throw pillow in mind) with a solid color on top of a pretty variegated yarn. I went online to the Yarnspirations site, and color options were low, so on a whim, I picked Icelandic to coordinate with one of my favorites, Buff. I wasn’t too sure about it at first, but now I quite like it! It works for a boho style, beach style or a cute, little mermaid themed room.

Originally, I only had sizes 12” - 27”, but I went back and added other afghan square sizes that can be used for working up all kinds of projects including sachets, scarves, shawls, and blankets to name a few.

Materials:

  • 25 - 1,032 Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn - I used Red Heart Super Saver in Buff and Icelandic
  • H8/5mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle

My sample is a 16” size. The rest of the size yardages are estimated based on my sample and listed as Buff; Icelandic:

  • 4”: 18 Yards; 7 Yards
  • 6”: 34 Yards; 16 Yards
  • 8”: 68 Yards; 37 Yards
  • 10”: 89 Yards; 51 Yards
  • 12”: 132 Yards; 78 Yards
  • 14”: 181 Yards; 112 Yards
  • 16”: 206 Yards; 141 Yards
  • 18”: 284 Yards; 178 Yards
  • 20”: 347 Yards; 227 Yards
  • 22”: 410 Yards; 270 Yards
  • 24”: 477 Yards; 318 Yards
  • 27”: 616 Yards; 416 Yards

Suggested Yarn Alternatives: Caron One Pound, Bernat Super Value, Hobby Lobby Crafters Secret

Time Spent: The 16” piece took me about 3 hours, 45 minutes to work up.

Sizes: 4”, (6”, 8”, 10”, 12”, 14”, 16”, 18”, 20”, 22”, 24”, 27”)

Gauge:

  • In Mosaic Pattern: 11 SC = 2.88”, 8 Rows = 2”
  • In Straight SC: 16 SC = 4.13”, 8 Rows = 2.13”
