Inspired by receding waves revealing ripples of sand, Tidal Breeze is the “ooh la la” must for your summer knit list. This beautiful skirt is engaging to knit and eye catching to wear.

The design is broken into two sections - an intricate front cable and lace panel, knit first, and a plain Stockinette stitch body, which wraps around the derriere to attach to the panel in front.

The intermediate level tech edited pattern includes written directions, charts, schematic, and how-to video.

Gauge:

21 sts and 32 rows over 4”/ 10cm MC in Stockinette stitch using US 5/ 3.75 mm (washed and blocked). In order for the waves to hit in the center of the horizontal panel, make sure to check row gauge as well as stitch gauge.

Special Notes:

  • The general construction of the skirt is worked in two parts: work horizontal pattern (cable panel) first from right to left; then vertical skirt (solid part of skirt) will be worked in one piece from top down; two pieces seamed together at the end.
  • The length of the skirt is determined by the horizontal pattern. The pattern length is based upon a person’s height of 65.5”/ 166cm. If knitting a custom length, calculate the length desired and alter the cast on (width) of the horizontal pattern to match.
  • Sizes based on natural waist circumferences. Skirt sits on low-rise waist.
  • There is 17% negative ease on the waist band in order for the skirt to stay put and enable easy on and off. If decreasing the amount of negative ease on the waist band, decrease by a multiple of 4 sts. For each multiple of 4 sts, work one less repeat under the “Lower Waist” dart section.
  • There is 12% positive ease to the body of the skirt so the skirt hugs without being skin tight. To increase the amount of positive ease, work more increases in the “Increase to Hips” section.
  • On the horizontal panel, the upper 10 sts will cover the interior belt/ waist band and the lower 4 sts are for the hem.
  • Assume MC unless otherwise stated.
  • Make sure you cross the MC and CC strands on every row to secure the CC to the cable background.
  • Make life easy – use 1 ball of MC for the cable background and 5 individual bobbins of CC, one for each wave (see picture above).
  • Once placed the markers won’t be referenced again, slip throughout.
  • Directions for the interior belt are on page 5 and demonstrated on video on the Knit Eco Chic You Tube channel. Charts for cable and wave pattern are on pages 6. Schematics are on page 7.
