Gather up your fine wool scraps to knit this shawl—or kerchief, depending on what you want to end up with and how much yarn you have. This kerchief/shawl starts with a stockinette swatch that works in a way that’s similar to a traditional garter stitch tab, and then progresses from there!

It’s designed to work with scraps you have on hand, so this .PDF includes dimensions for a little kerchief as well instructions for a free-measured top down shawl.

I used Malabrigo Yarn Sock and Malabrigo Yarn Mechita for my kerchief sample! Colorways include Piedras, Frank Ochre, Ochre, and I think Volcan, but I may be a little off on that one (it’s the reddest color).

Materials:

• 160-800 yards of soft fingering-weight wool; 160 will make a kerchief
• 1 24”+ circular needle in US4/3.5mm, or size needed for gauge
• 2 DPNs (technically optional, but will make i-cord easier)
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:
Gauge is 21 sts and 44 rows over 4”/10cm, in blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge.
