Tiger Skin Junior
’Tiger Skin’ was the nickname for the blue and white striped pullovers, which were formerly part of sailors’ clothing. From the mid-19th century conscripts in the Danish Navy wore sailor suits with the characteristic squared collar adorned with stripes. The blue and white striped undershirts were introduced in 1879 and were in use until 1929.
The body and sleeves are worked separately in the round bottom-up beginning with a folded hem. The body is divided at the yoke and the sleeves are divided at the armhole, with the yoke and the last rows of the sleeves worked back and forth. The sleeves are sewn in, and one shoulder closed with buttons.
