Tilias kofta is a sweet, easy-to-wear cross-over cardigan made for the goddaughter of my own daughter. It’s a soft and feminine knit - based upon the idea of my cross-over-cardigan for adults: MarieMarie.

As MarieMarie Tilias kofta has overlapping fronts in stockinette sts and a back worked in lace-pattern. Everything is made seamlessly - both for being comfortable to wear as well as easy to make.

The lower body of the cardigan is worked in one piece and bottom-up, with integrated garter borders. Work is split at armhole height, and fronts and back are worked in seperate pieces. Shoulders are worked together from WS using the three needle bind-off method. Sleeves are made from picked-up stitches around the armhole-openings. They are worked in the round and top-down (which makes it easy to determine the length of the sleeves).

I suggest ages in the pattern: smallest size 1 year, medium size 2 years and up, largest size 3 years and up. Please consider this as very approximate indications - as babies and toddlers differ so much in size.
Please note Some of my test-knitters have found that the neck-opening is too wide, and that the cardigan slip off the shoulders. To avoid this you could:

1. End decreases for fronts at an earlier Point
2. Make the edge for neck in rib-st instead of garter st

If you can, take a measurement of the child before getting started (and/or a measurement of a favorite garment.)

Material: I used the soft alpaca Superfine from Ilóyarn to make the cardigan. It is a fingering/4ply weight alpaca - very soft and suitable for baby garments. You could substitute it to any soft fiber (merino, cotton, cashmere…) as long as you respect the gauge.

Gauge: Stocking stitches: 24 sts/34 rows to 10x10cm/4x4”

Knitting skills: Apart from working lace, and working in the round there are no special skills needed.

The pattern: The pattern is clear and easy to follow, with stitch counts along the way, measurements are given in both cm and inches, and there are both row-by-row instructions, a chart for the lace-pattern and a simple schematic.
