All profits from the sale of this pattern will go to Marie Curie UK

My day job is working as a doctor for Marie Curie - a UK charity that provides a better end of life for more people, whatever the illness. Marie Curie are there for anyone living with any illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Marie Curie nurses and healthcare professionals provide free and expert palliative and end of life care, information and support. Marie Curie also campaigns for more people to have a better end of life and fund palliative care research.

I am running the London Marathon in 2026 in aid of Marie Curie, and so am launching this little pattern as part of my fundraising.

I am not a knitting designer, and the pattern has not been test knitted, so please bear with me and let me know if you find any mistakes - I am just hoping to make a little money for a charity that is very close to my heart. It has been proof read by an experienced knitter.

This is a quick little pattern to make, and can be done using scraps of yarn. The pattern has been adapted from Sheep Balls by Dona Carruth and I am hugely grateful to Dona for allowing me to do this in order to support Marie Curie.

Yarn
I used hand dyed yarn from Lucylocketland, and have also made some using Yarnsmiths Merino Sock - any fingering weight yarn should work.

Needles:
2.5mm DPNs, or size required to meet gauge

Size could be adjusted by using different yarn weights and adjusting needle size appropriately.

You can use ready made baubles, or polystyrene balls, or you could use stuffing for a soft version if you prefer.
