Our ancestors began to tell stories and express themselves artistically tens of thousands of years ago by creating cave art to represent people, animals, and concepts. The “Time Immemorial” cowl is based on a variety of cave paintings from different locations around the world.

This cowl is double-knitted in the round so the sides mirror each other and it is “finished” on both sides.

Finished size is approximately 9 1/4” tall by 29” around

This cowl uses approximately 350 yards each of two highly contrasting colors of fingering weight yarn:

Yarn used in photos:

  • Main color- Custom dyed sock blank from Yarn over New York {463 yards/ 100 grams}
  • Contrast color- Finch fingering weight yarn from Quince and Co. in Egret {221 yards/ 50 grams} (2 skeins)

This pattern assumes a basic understanding of double-knitting but there are many great YouTube tutorials if you have a question about the technique or need a refresher- or feel free to contact me on Ravelry and I will do my best to help!

$1 from each pattern sold will be donated to an organization that helps to fight the climate crisis, to build a more sustainable world for our future.
