TIME TO PLAY : BABY BLOCKS

Looking for that perfect newborn baby gift? These cuddly, educational cubes are just the thing. Knit simple stocking stitch with a touch of Swiss darning to help little ones learn letters and shapes.

Note: The letters and shapes have been added to the cubes after knitting, using Swiss darning (duplicate stitch). If you prefer you could use intarsia and follow the charts provided.

I recommend using a machine washable acrylic yarn to keep your blocks clean from sticky fingers.

ABOUT THE PATTERN: The pattern has instructions for making the large and small blocks, photos, charts, a list of abbreviations and explanation of some techniques, a materials list and recommended yarns. The pattern is 6 pages and written in English.

TECHNIQUES: All pieces are knitted flat on straight knitting needles. You will need to cast on and off, knit, purl, knit stripes, and sew seams. The letters and pictures are embroidered after knitting using Swiss Darning, although if you prefer you can use intarsia colour-work following the charts provided in the pattern.

YARN, NEEDLES AND NOTIONS INCLUDE:

  • A pair of straight 3mm knitting needles (US 3)
  • Paintbox Baby DK yarns; 50g each in white, blush pink and bubblegum pink
  • Toy filling
  • A darning/tapestry needle
