Timeless Blanket
Written in 1906 The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady is a beautiful and iconic nature journal with delicate watercolours depicting fields and woodlands teeming with life, and meadows filled with wildflowers. Inspired by this and by the colours in a ball of Colour Rush yarn the Timeless Blanket was born. With its simple elegance and soft romantic colours, it evokes a nostalgic charm for the idyllic countryside of days gone by.
Method: The Timeless Blanket is a no-sew project; first the desired number of squares are made, then they are crocheted together by a continuous join, finally the border rounds are added.
The pattern includes charts and photos to aid in the positioning of stitches and in construction of the Continuous Lacy Shell Join.
Stitches used (UK terminology):
Chain, slip stitch, double crochet, half treble crochet, treble crochet, double crochet 2 together, 3 treble crochet cluster.
Sizes:
Blanket shown - finished size after blocking 109 cm (43”) square.
Instructions are given for the blanket pictured, which was constructed with 36 Timeless squares joined in a 6x6 configuration. However, the border is designed to accommodate any configuration and number of squares that you wish so that you can make larger or smaller square or rectangular blankets; information on how to do this is included.
Yarn:
This pattern was designed to showcase the beautiful colours of Cygnet Colour Rush and Cygnet DK.
This is a great pattern to experiment with color and use variegated, multi tonal, or solid yarns of any weight. Be creative, have fun, but keep in mind changes in size and shape of blanket and weight of yarn used will affect yardage.
As a guide for the blanket pictured (6x6 configuration) I used the following quantities:
Yarn A – Cygnet Colour Rush 665 Tea Party approx. 720 metres (787 yards)
Yarn B – Cygnet DK 154 Harvest approx. 1185 metres (1296 yards)
Gauge:
Rounds 1-5 of Timeless square = 11 cm (4⅜”)
Tension is not super important for this project, but if your tension varies from this you may need more yarn to complete your blanket.
