Half of Cornwall Calling, Tinsmith is a top-down triangular shawl with bands of garter stitch between lace panels evocative of the patterning on tinware. Worked in a fingering weight Tinsmith is a wonderful wrap of a shawl that can be worn year-round. Try it in a merino single for a rustic feel, linen for a summer shawl and what about seasilk or pure silk for a luxurious version. Written for two sizes the smaller shawl is a very good size, the large a fabulously generous shawl.

Please note: Purchasing the two patterns, Tinsmith and Beachcomber as a collection offers a saving. Refunds cannot be given if you purchase the patterns individually and then wish to purchase the pair as an ebook.

REQUIREMENTS
Size Options: As written – Small Version 56” (142cm) wide, 26” (66.5cm) deep before blocking and 84” (213cm) wide, 31” (79cm) after; Large Version 72” (183cm) wide, 34” (86.5cm) deep before blocking and 95” (241cm) wide, 42” (107cm) after. Measurements taken using Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light. Note that measurements will differ depending on yarn, tension, blocking etc and these are therefore given as a guide only.
Yarn: Shown in Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light though any fingering weight yarn of around 384m to 400m/100g would be suitable. Small Version - Three skeins of fingering weight yarn around (400m/100g); Large Version - Four skeins of fingering weight yarn around (400m/100g). Suggested yarns: The Uncommon Thread BFL Singles, Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, Qing Fibre Merino Singles Fingering, La Bien Aimee Merino Singles, Life in the Long Grass Merino Singles, Yama Merino Linen Singles
Circular Needles: 3.75mm (US5) and 4mm (US 6) about 1m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape.
You will also need: stitch markers, needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.
Gauge: Gauge is not overly important as this is a shawl. It is better to knit a swatch to ensure that you are happy with your tension and the drape of your fabric remembering that a looser gauge will result in additional yardage requirements. However, the gauge achieved was 20 sts to 4” before blocking and 16 sts to 4” after – measurement taken over garter stitch using 3.75mm (US 5) needles.

The pattern is both fully written and charted throughout.
