This pattern came to life because of a post on the fountain pens subreddit, criticizing a promotional, AI-generated image of a fountain pen with a knit sweater. Cute, but I am personally not a fan of generative AI. Especially when companies (like the one who posted the original image) could easily pay someone to knit an actual tiny pen sweater, and a photographer to take a promotional image. I decided I could create a pen sweater myself.

The pen sweater is versatile. It can be added to nearly any pen, pencil, marker, or wooden spoon you already own! It doesn’t take much yarn at all, and gauge swatching is… not very important. It would take you much longer to make a full gauge swatch than to just knit the sweater!

Unfortunately, there is only one size provided. And it is a bit fiddly to knit due to its small scale -- I used DPNs, but magic loop would work as well. You should be able to use both, or either, and should already be comfortable doing so.

Conceptually, this is a top down raglan sweater. If you’ve knit a human-sized one before, you can probably come up with something very similar on your own!
