The idea for the tiny tea cosy came about when I was watching some hardy British people sitting outside a tea shop in the autumn. The individual teapots looked as if they’d lose heat very rapidly in the open air and there’s nothing worse than pouring your second cup of tea only to find that it’s too cold to drink!

I decided to use double stranded DK yarn in a honeycomb brioche stitch to give a really thick insulating layer for the body of the cosy. To knit double stranded, I pulled the thread from the outside and the inside of skein together.

I used just under one third of a 100g ball of Life DK by Stylecraft, but you could use any DK that knits to the same gauge. One ball will make about three tiny tea cosies.
