This pattern is not limited to yarn weight or needles stated. Experiment! DK has been specified, but no particular brand, because we are making lots of these and we use the Acrylic yarns that are inexpensive and easy to acquire. Although gauge is stated as it depends on what size needle you use. A larger needle will give you a larger Kitty and conversely, a smaller needle will give you a smaller Kitty. Just use a needle about 2 or 3 sizes smaller than your yarn asks for normally to prevent the stuffing from peeking through the stitches!

This Tiny Teal Kitty Toy has been designed to help raise awareness about Batten Disease. It is a part of my Tiny Teal Toy Project where my family, friends and I make the Tiny Teal Toys to give away to children with the hope that their parents will read the tag attached and check out the Batten Disease website to learn about it.

Batten Disease is an extremely rare genetic degenerative neurological disease which has no cure and is always fatal. It is a thief of young life. Because Batten Disease is so rare, no Government anywhere in the world has supported research into a cure. All research has been funded by the families and friends of children who have been affected by this terrible disease. I had never heard of Batten Disease before my Grandson, Marcus was diagnosed with it when he was 3 years old, in 2011 and passed away when he was 6.

This pattern is for you to use, for free. If you would like to help spread awareness of Batten Disease, please knit this toy in Teal Colored Yarn as Teal is the Ribbon Color of Batten Disease Awareness. I include a PDF of Tags you can print out and attach to the toys if you would like to join our campaign.

If you just like the pattern and want to make a few Kitties for yourself or friends, that is fine. A donation to any Batten Disease Research Foundation to help find a cure would be appreciated, though.
