This shawl has a boomerang style shape with one arm being longer than the other. It is a simple 4 row repeat, interesting enough to not get bored but with lots of garter stitch to make it great tv or social knitting. It requires 3 skeins of DK yarn in 3 different colors. I chose a gradient from light gray to dark purple but any 3 colors with enough contrast would look beautiful. The transition from color to color is worked in a slip stich pattern that looks like tiny tiles. The first color that is knitted will be the narrowest and longest section. The second color will be shorter and wider. Finally, the third color will be the shortest but most visible if wearing your shawl with the deepest point on the front.

Size: one

Finished measurements: 14.5” (max depth) x 78” (top edge) x 28” (short bottom edge) x 68” (long bottom edge). See schematic at the end of pattern.

Yarn: 3 skeins of DK weight yarn in 3 different colors. Sample in Bridal Trails DK from Dyehouse yarns by Serial Knitters. 100% superwash merino, 250 yards, 115g. We will call the colors C1 (fog in the valley), C2 (lilac blush) and C3 (OOAK).

Recommended needle size: US #8 circular needle, at least 20” long. A circular needle is not necessary, but it will hold the weight of the shawl better as it grows. Gauge is not important as long as you like the fabric that is created, though a different gauge can change dimensions and yardage requirements.

Notions: Waste yarn for a provisional cast on, yarn needle for weaving in ends and a scale to weight your yarn. Optionally, one locking stitch marker to mark the RS.

Gauge: 20 sts and 20 ridges = 4 inches square in garter st.
