From the book:

As a kid, I remember my mom having toe socks. Not just a pair or two. but a lot of them. To say I was fascinated with them would be an understatement. I would wear them at every opportunity. But once I was ten or eleven, my feet were already much bigger than my mom’s, and so I left toe socks behind. Recently, my younger sister, Janelle, developed a similar obsession with toe socks, so I set out to design a pair for her. Getting the toes just right was the biggest challenge. After much trial and error, I realized I needed to make the toes individually, then join them and start making the foot. Once I did that, the rest was a breeze. Now whenever I wear flip-flops and my feet get a bit chilly, I pull out my toes socks to warm my little piggies.
