When my first sock was done, my reaction was that it looked like some kind of bird, rather funny for a sock, but when I put it on, it was oh, so comfy! The rib hugs the foot and ankle at just the right spots and the contrast stripes in the rib add elegance.

The sock is knitted from the heel on upwards and sideways, joining the instep as you go. The toe and leg are worked from either end. This construction is accentuated by the contrast stripes.

To honour the sort of birdy first impression, I have called them Tjäder Socks. Tjäder (pronounced ‘Chader’) (Tetrao urogallus) being the Swedish name for Capercaillie, Eurasian Wood Grouse.

Materials
Yarn: 100 g Drops Fabel or equivalent sock yarn, 20 g contrasting Drops Fabel or equivalent

Some words from the test knitters:

“I must admit I haven’t been able to resist the urge to try on the sock over and over again! This pattern is so COOL!”

“The fit was really lovely. They make me wish it was not going to be 88 Fahrenheit today.”

“Tight getting on but once on really pleasant; support in the right places. Like a foot hug.”
