My inspiration came from:
Toad in the Hole is a typical English dish baked in the oven and accompanied by mash, gravy and boiled cabbage

This pattern starts off easy toe up with some interest added, then gently leads you into the toad hole to get used to the increases and decreases. It is an easy to remember stitch repeat, that then has an easy twist - not too taxing, even for the beginner, when the Toad decides to take up residence in the hole.
The socks are finished off with ribbing.
After which we add the afterthought heel.
