My son started daycare recently and his packing instructions included a note that he’d need 2 pairs of mittens. My knitting mom brain immediately knew that I’d need to knit him some, because that way his little hands would be snuggled in wool and my love.

I can guarantee that a mitten will go missing and it seems like the most practical thing is to knit a whole bunch of identical mittens so that if one goes missing, a new one can be pulled out and put into rotation.

This pattern is the result. I was able to get 5 mittens out of a single skein of yarn.
