This is my personal go-to sock pattern for making myself socks with any high-quality self-patterning 4-ply sock yarn. It features a flat toe, increases in the foot to accommodate the arch, and optional leg increases if you want to go further up the calf.

This is sized for a Men’s US 8.5 shoe size, but includes info on adjusting the foot length as needed for other shoe sizes.

The gauge is not super critical as it does rely on a bit of negative ease. That said, if you’re using an unusually fine sock yarn please double check the width. Normally, when laid flat the width is around 9.3cm as measured with a flat ruler at a point between the toe and the instep gusset.

Speaking of yarns, I’ve had great longevity with the Lang brand of sock yarns and good luck with Regia. However, I’ve found that Opal, while beautiful, wears quickly.

For “other equipment”:
* 3 stitch markers. For work in socks, I really like the Clover Stitch Markers Triangle, XS.
Tape measure (For guage and length)
I use ChiaGoo 2.25mm DPN needles in a 6 inch stainless steel, but I’m sure one could do magic loop if preferred.
