I am mad for slip stitch patterns. I’ve been exploring them for years and still find new and amazing things about them. For this vest, I’ve combined 3 slip stitch patterns using 2 natural colors of yarn; the brown is from Bond, and the white is from Corriedale. The nice thing about combining colors in slip stitch patterns is that you work with only one color at a time; in this instance, you change color every 2 or 4 rows. Such simple knitting still creates interesting color combination and texture effects.

I designed this vest with negative ease so it would hug me. The ribbing along the side still allows for a great deal of stretch, so the vest does not feel constricting.

The pattern as written will fit a range of chest measurements. I purposely chose the stitch pattern for the midriff section to result in a slight narrowing near the waist.

Construction notes
This vest is worked from the bottom up, featuring a simple square neck shape. The front and back are knit flat, and the armhole and neck bands are knit in the round. The lower and upper parts of the body are worked in the same stitch pattern, but the colors are reversed.

When measuring length, do so along the sides of the vest. The pattern instructions include edge stitches to make seaming easier. The beginning and ending of stitch patterns within the vest were adjusted to align all stitch patterns. The stitch guide gives you generic instructions, and the pattern instructions are specific.
