Colette Top
Colette is a timeless ribbed summer top featuring a flattering square neckline and wide straps designed to fully cover bra straps.
Worked from the top down in a stretchy 3×1 rib, Colette combines a clean silhouette with thoughtful construction and customizable fit.
The pattern includes optional bust dart instructions with formulas to help knitters adjust the fit for a fuller bust.
The pattern includes:
• 6 sizes
• Upper bust sizing guide
• Step-by-step instructions
• Technical illustrations
• Video tutorials for the trickiest techniques
• Optional bust dart modification with calculation formulas
• Top-down construction
The Colette Top is worked from the top down in a 3x1 rib pattern: knit 3, purl 1. The straps are worked flat first, separately for the front and back. After the armholes have been shaped, all pieces are joined together, and the body is worked in the round to the desired length.
I recommend trying the top on as you work and blocking it before seaming the straps, so you can adjust the strap length to your personal preference.

Before choosing your size, measure your upper bust circumference, as this is the key measurement for selecting the correct size and helps avoid excess fabric under the arms.
The top is designed with a minimum of 5 cm / 2 in of negative ease at the upper bust, which means that the actual circumference of the top is smaller than your body measurement. Thanks to the 3x1 rib pattern, the fabric is very stretchy and adapts to the shape of the body.
For reference: my upper bust measurement is 97 cm / 38.25 in, and I chose size 3, which gives me 5 cm / 2 in of negative ease.
Each size has been designed for the upper end of its size range. This means that the fit may vary depending on where your measurement falls within the range:
- List item
if you are at the lower end of the size range, the top will have a more relaxed fit;
- List item
if you are at the upper end of the size range, the top will have a closer fit;
- List item
if you are between sizes, choose the smaller size.
Please note that the measurements above can only be achieved if your gauge matches the gauge given in the pattern.
