Shaped like a tornado, the Tornado Hat features a foldover garter stitch brim for warmth, with traveling stitches winding around the body of the hat. As you decrease for the crown the traveling stitches evolve into a spiraling braid. The braid hangs like a natural ponytail, making it a great option for a chemo hat.

I made samples in a variety of different Aran weight yarns and had some slight variations to gauge with different yarns, but all yielded hats within the range of average adult hat size. (21” - 23”) The adult size used approximately 180 yards. This is 1 full skein of Classic Shades, slightly more than 1 skein for the other recommended yarns.

Materials:
Will need Size 8(5mm) dpns in addition to 16” circular needle, stitch marker, scissors, darning needle, and a 4” square of cardboard for making the tassel.
