One open cable makes a peek-a-boo hat or a dramatic split cowl.

NOTES: The hat is worked in the round from
the bottom up, starting with a 2 × 2 Rib Stitch pattern. A simple cable is worked on one side, and then the hat is worked flat to create an opening in the middle of the cable. The hat is joined in the round again with the cable. Decreases are used to shape the crown, and a long tail is threaded through the remaining stitches to close the top of the hat.

The cowl is worked flat from the bottom up to create a split hem, then joined to work in the round by a simple cable. It
is then again worked flat to create an opening in the middle of the cable, then joined once again by the cable. The top part of the cowl is split, and worked flat, to create a small opening detail.
