This .pdf crochet pattern is written in standard American crochet terms. With this very detailed pattern, you can make a realistic long-eared owl, and an owling too! Somehow my owling turned out smaller than the adult, even though I used the same yarn.

This is a pattern for experienced crafters. It’s made with basic stitches, but the many colour changes and the shaping of the owl don’t make it suitable for beginners.

Size
If you use the recommended yarn, your owl will be 5 inch / 13 cm tall

Materials
For this crochet owl you’ll need worsted weight yarn (Lètt Lopi) and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. For the adult you’ll need three colours of yarn: straw (1418), oatmeal heather (0085) and chocolate heather (0867). For the owling you also need 3 colours: light beige heather (0086), oatmeal heather and a little bit of black sheep (0052) or black heather (0005). For the eyes I’ve used 10 mm animal eyes with transparent back which I painted orange. You also need a little bit of black felt to place behind the eyes and fibrefill and pellets for extra weight in the body.

The crochet pattern contains
An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. A clear and colour coded description of how to crochet and assemble the animal, with instruction images with extra notes next to the text and example pictures at the bottom to help you get everything right. All my patterns are text edited for correct English and have been tested by experienced crocheters before publishing.

Yarn
Istex Lett lopi. I strongly recommend using a fuzzy yarn because it gives the best result. Keep in mind a different type of yarn can give a different result!

Gauge is unimportant for this pattern. If the pieces are crocheted tightly enough, they will not gape visibly when stuffed. You can make a little test swap to be sure.
