After reflecting on moments that have impacted us, recognizing what has changed and what remains, we might wonder “what’s next?” The Transitory Wrap is where that uncertainty lives and it reminds us that for better or worse, everything changes. It doesn’t promise what comes next or how long you will be in this states, only that nothing stays fixed forever.

True to its name, everything in this pattern shifts, whether it is the stitch pattern, colors, or shape. It is a kite-shaped friend asking you to spend time with them in the present, because it is exactly where you need to be.

This is an intermediate level pattern. The pattern is written in standard US crochet terms. It comes in two sizes.

Dimensions:

  • Small: ~64” (160 cm) on its longest edge and 40” (100 cm) on its shortest edge
  • Large: ~80” (200 cm) on its longest edge and 71” (178 cm) on its shortest edge

Here’s what you’ll need:
Hook: 3 mm
Yarn: fingering weight yarn in 3 to 4 colors. The following are maximum yardage estimates based on the tester experience:

  • Color 1 (solid/tonal): small, ~1 skein/408 yards (373 m); large, ~1.5 skeins/680 yards (622 m)
  • Color 2 (solid/tonal): small, 1 skein/408 yards (373 m); large, ~1.5 skeins/710 yards (649 m)
  • Color 3 (variegate or solid/tonal): small, ~0.5 skeins/147 yards (134 m); large, ~0.75 skeins/260 yards (238 m)
  • Color 4 (variegate or solid/tonal): small, ~0.5 skeins/169 yards (154 m); large, 0.75 skeins/310 yards (283 m)
