Trasmatta, meaning “rug” in swedish, is a cute little scrap yarn baby cardigan. It’s perfect if you want to practice stranded knitting, the pattern reports are short and only 2 colours are used at a time. It’s also a great project if you want to try steeking something small. The result is a colourful and pretty cardigan for a little one.

Trasmatta is knit bottom up and in the round. Your start with the body, then knit the two sleeves. After that you knit the pieces together. The front opening is cut open once the cardigan is knit. Sleeve and body length can be adjusted to fit the wearer, just add or remove rows in the desired segment. If you don’t have enough yarn of one specific colour, knit striped or solid sleeves!

Gauge: 30 stitches and 32 rows / 10 cm in stranded knitting.
Needles: Cable needles 2,5 and 3 or size needed to obtain gauge.
Sizes: 3, 6-9 and 12-18 months, see measurements below.
Other materials: scrap yarn, darning needle, stitch markers, scissors. Sewing machine for the steek. Or a crochet needle if you prefer crocheting the steek. 6 buttons and cotton band to hide the cut open edge.
