The Travelers Shawl is an asymmetric bias triangle shawl featuring garter micro stripes and a delicate picot edge. This version uses only two skeins of fingering weight yarn, but it could easily be made as large as desired by adding more yarn and continuing the pattern. The simple eight-row pattern repeat is easy to memorize, and the bias shaping and airy gauge make it drape beautifully. The garter micro stripes are a fun way to play up the texture and color junction between two high contrast yarns. Use your two favorite tonals for the best striping effect, or play with high contrasting remnants. High contrast is the key. Try to keep as much contrast between color A and color B as you can. Otherwise, the effect is lost and it just looks like plain garter stitch. If using remnants, sort them into light and dark collections before beginning. Take a black & white photo of your selections to see past the color and truly judge the contrasting values. Not a fan of picot? I’ve included instructions for a simple I-cord bind off as well.
