Treeds o’ time hat

I named this hat ‘Treeds o’ time’ which translates to “Threads of time”. I have thought a lot about the numerous and talented Shetland maakers of the past, most of whom have gone unrecognised. Shetland maakin provides us with a link to our forebears, as we still knit in the same way. I like to think that the individual threads from each maaker gone by, has created a rich tapestry and formed a heritage to be proud of. Afterall, everything connects.

This pattern includes traditional Shetland motifs. I would recommend using 100% Shetland wool for best results.

The pattern is one size adult but the actual size can be changed quite dramatically using larger or smaller needle sizes.
Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting tends to be close.

In this design I have used 5 shades but you could adapt the design to use fewer colours. 1 x 25g ball of each shade
