The Treetops Project is a craftivism movement to fight for climate action. The hats are designed to mimic the shape of an evergreen tree, and to be worn en masse at climate and science marches around the world.

There are three versions of the pattern: the Classic Pattern, which is knit in worsted weight yarn and worked in the round; the Chunky Classic Pattern, which looks the same as the Classic Pattern, but uses chunky weight yarn; and the Flat-Out Simple Pattern, which is beginner-friendly, and worked flat in garter stitch using chunky weight yarn.

These patterns are intended as an accessible starting place, so feel free to get creative and experiment with stitch patterns, yarns, and techniques. Play around with colorwork! Why not throw in some cables? Have fun with it.
