This design can be knit with the all-over lace design as shown, or it can be simplified to have vertical lace panels alternated with stockinette. Color Loops is an easy way to strand the contrast color vertically so the lace pattern is framed--2-color lace! The pattern also includes directions for knitting 2-color twisted stitches, allowing the vertical yarn to travel over the main color’s fabric.

Trellace is named for the trellis effect of the contrast color, and for the lace that fills the trellis grid, lightening the woolly stitching visually. The laciness also allows the knitting to breathe so you get the cozy warmth of the wool without any overheating or too much density.

The main body of the pattern is for the neck tube, but at the end there is a chart for decreases for a hat crown to make a hat instead.

The MC requires 3/4 to a full 50 g ball, and the CC will take approximately half a ball.
