Trellis Socks
The Trellis Socks are snug ¾ crew socks with an interlocking cable motif running down the front of the leg and top of the foot. They are designed with optional contrast cuffs, heels, and toes. The construction is top down, with a heel flap and gusset and a simple wedge toe.
The motif was inspired originally by chain-link fences, but once knit, it reminded me more of lattice-work, like a lovely trellis in a cottage garden, full of early spring peas or late summer pole beans. The cable also pulls the sock in slightly, ensuring a snug fit around the feet of the wearer and hopefully ensuring a longer life.
YARN
(MC) 1 (1) hank Amble by the Fibre Co. (355yd/100g)
(CC) 1 (2) hank(s) Amble Mini by the Fibre Co. (88yd/25g)
OR
(MC) 100 (100) g of fingering weight sock yarn
(CC) 25 (50) g of fingering weight sock yarn
If omitting contrast details entirely, 100g of yarn should still be enough for both sizes.
If knitting size two, you can get away with 1 ball of Amble Mini (or one 25g mini hank) if you omit one of the contrast details and knit the cuff, heel, or toe in the MC.
NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
- Size US1 (2.25mm) needles, 36” or longer cord for magic loop OR 2.25mm flexi-flips.
- Size US0 (2mm) needles for the ribbed cuff of the sock. Use whatever method you prefer for small circumference knitting.
- Scissors
- One locking stitch marker
- Tapestry needle
- Cable needle, if preferred, however I prefer knitting cables without a cable needle. Here is a great tutorial from Brooklyn Tweed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtf4WBpz2XU
