A simple cowl for the confident beginner, knit in-the-round using knit and purl stitches to create an interesting texture of vertical and horizontal ridges, with a nod to military style.

The design uses a ribbed border at top and bottom with a central knit/purl design. Both chart and written instructions are given as well as guidance about yarn choice, needle size and gauge. But feel free to adapt the pattern by increasing your cast on stitches in multiples of the chart repeat to make a wider cowl (x3 or x4 and you will have a cowl that you can wrap around a couple of times), or increase the number of multiples that your repeat the chart in total to give a much deeper cowl which will fold and cocoon.

This is a pattern which uses the simple beauty of the knit stitch ‘v’ and the purl bump to make a timeless style statement.
