I fist have seen Chrysanthemum pillow-face in one of the old Burda publications and fell in love with it. But it was very small and I wanted a shawl. So the work begun.

This shawl was created using some of the motives from the original, but as work progressed, the leaves were added and enlarged, and the flowers were changed to fit in the new places, and the branches were added and removed… The story is long, two years long.

Neibling’s style patterns have those real live forms due to uneven tension in different parts of the design. That is the most difficult effect to achieve. Too much tension and the object will not lay flat; too little tension and you get geometrical shapes instead of the rounded ones. I hope the balance was achieved in this shawl.

I hope you enjoy knitting it and like the results.

The pattern is charted and has extensive instructions. It is intended for intermediate to experienced lace knitter due to large charts and complicated design. However, if you a good chart reader and have patience, the shawl should not be too difficult to knit. I tried to bring it to adventurous beginner level.

The charts are paged to letter size paper, as it is the most commonly used format. They would need to be taped together. I’ve also devised a method for handling really long charts. The instructions on both taping and handling long charts are included in the pattern.

The charts are colored and use mostly Burda symbols. The color should be helpful for beginner lace knitter, as it shows each pattern element the way it would be in the completed item. It helps to ‘see’ the design in the knitted fabric. If you do not like colored charts, they can be printed in black and white, the ‘grayscale’ printer setting is recommended.

There is 14”x12.5” swatch included in the pattern, which has one small flower and two leaves. It could be used as a pillow face, window decoration, or framed as a picture. Most importantly, it would be a good place to start for beginner lace knitter.

There are more pictures in the project associated with the pattern.

06-02-15. I have just finished developing a version with scalloped edging. It will be included in the pattern, and everyone who bought the pattern will receive an e-mail with the link to it. It is coming soon.

Note. The instructions are in English, but experienced knitters can knit of the charts only, that is why I clicked ‘Universal’ for language.
