Crochet a richly textured Trinity Christmas Stocking and add a touch of timeless charm to your holiday décor. This crochet pattern also includes instructions for a coordinating mini stocking that’s perfect for holding gift cards or small favors.

Worked in the ever-popular trinity stitch, this stocking features eye-catching clusters that resemble tiny stars or flowers. The stitch creates a dense, sturdy fabric that holds its shape beautifully, resulting in a stocking that’s ready to be filled with Christmas surprises.

This premium 12-page crochet pattern includes everything you need to crochet with confidence, including detailed written instructions, reference photos, helpful video tutorials, and a comprehensive Trinity Stitch Basics reference guide. Create a cherished holiday heirloom that will become part of your family’s Christmas tradition for years to come.

How This Stocking Is Made
This stocking is worked in the round from the toe up, with space left for an afterthought heel. A classic ribbed cuff is added along the top edge and folded over for a refined finish. Complete your stocking with a simple crochet hanging loop for easy display.

Pattern is written in US crochet terms.

Skill Level
Advanced Beginner

Concentration Level
Some concentration required. Easily memorized stitch patterns. Minimal shaping might require some focus and counting.

Stitches Used
Chain, single crochet, single crochet 2 together, single crochet 3 together

Techniques Used
Starting with an adjustable ring (aka double magic ring – video tutorial provided), working in continuous joined rounds as well as turned rounds, simple decreases (sc2tog and sc3tog), working into top loops of chain (instead of a chain space), working in back bar of a chain, and working in the back loop only.

Finished Measurements
(approximate size after blocking)
Full-Sized Stocking: 9 inches (23 cm) from heel to toe; 12 inches (30.5 cm) from cuff to heel; 5 inches (12.5 cm) wide at heel; 6 inches (15 cm) wide at top opening

Mini Stocking Gift Card Holder: 3 inches (7.5 cm) from heel to toe; 3 inches (7.5 cm) from cuff to heel; 2.5 inches (6.5 cm) wide at top opening

Yarn
Medium (CYC #4) Weight Yarn
Full-Sized Stocking: approx. 279 yds (256 m) / 120 g (2 skeins)
Mini Stocking: approx. 40 yds (37 m) / 17 g (1skein)

The samples shown here were made with an I/9/5.5mm crochet hook and Lion Brand Wool Ease medium (worsted) weight wool/acrylic yarn (197 yds/180 m; 3 oz/85 g per skein) in the color #620-096A Linen.

Suggested Yarn Substitutes
Sample was made with medium-weight wool, but feel free to substitute the medium-weight yarn of your choice. Smooth, moderately spun acrylic, wool, or wool-blend yarns are recommended for this design, as they help the trinity stitch stand out and are less prone to splitting. Other fiber types can absolutely be used, but it is suggested to avoid very slick, fuzzy, or loosely spun yarns, as they may make the stitch definition less distinct and be more difficult to work with.

Lighter or heavier weight yarns may also be used. A different weight yarn may require a different size hook, as well as more or less yarn than noted. Working with a thinner or thicker yarn may result in different gauge measurements, which will affect the Finished Measurements. Working a gauge swatch is recommended (instructions provided in pattern).

Additional Tools And Materials
Size I/9/5.5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
2 stitch markers
Tapestry needle

Gauge
Though exact gauge is not essential, for best appearance it should be close.
I used a I/9/5.5mm crochet hook. Select the hook size that gives the best appearance for your choice of yarn and your tension.
A significantly different gauge may require more or less yarn than listed.
