If you enjoy crochet projects that keep your hands moving and give you something new to look forward to every few rows, the Trinity Medley Scarf offers just that. This crochet pattern combines several coordinating stitch patterns, giving you a satisfying change of pace as you work your way through the scarf. Make it in your favorite color, experiment with a new palette, or turn leftover yarn into a color combination that’s entirely your own.

Worked in alternating solid and lace stripes, this 6-inch-wide crochet scarf is lightweight and easy to wear while still offering plenty of texture and visual detail. The striped version lets you emphasize each section with a different color, or choose a single shade to spotlight the stitches themselves. It’s also a practical way to use smaller amounts of leftover yarn, making every version a little different. At the center of the design is the trinity stitch, whose distinctive texture pairs beautifully with the complementary lace patterns.

How This Scarf Is Made
Worked in rows with alternating solid and lace stripes, the stitch patterns flow quickly, keeping you engaged from the first stitch to the last. A construction overview diagram, labeled close-up photo of the stitch pattern sequence, and stitch chart provide additional guidance, while a row tracker worksheet helps you stay on track. Scarf is finished with a simple single crochet edging.

Medium (CYC #4) Weight Yarn
approximately 400 yards (360 m/170 g)

Solid-colored sample was made with Lion Brand Wool Ease medium (worsted) weight wool/acrylic yarn (197 yds/180 m; 3 oz/85 g per hank) and required 2 skeins of the color #620-096A Linen.

Striped sample was made with Cascade 220 medium (worsted) weight wool yarn (220 yds/201 m; 3.5 oz/100 g per hank) and required 110 yds (101 m/50 g) of each of the following colors: #2404 Atlantic, #7803 Magenta, #9570 Concord Grape, #2409 Palm, and #8910 Citron.

Suggested Yarn Substitutes
Pattern is designed for medium-weight yarn. Lighter or heavier weight yarns may be used. A different weight yarn may require a different size hook, as well as more or less yarn than noted. Working with a thinner or thicker yarn may result in different gauge measurements, which will affect the Finished Measurements. Working a gauge swatch is recommended.

Customization
Pattern includes instructions for adjusting the scarf width and length.
Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to increase the size of your scarf.

Gauge
Though exact gauge is not essential, for best appearance it should be close.
I used an I/9/5.5mm crochet hook. Select the hook size that gives the best appearance for your choice of yarn and your tension.
A significantly different gauge may require more or less yarn than listed.
