La stola TRIZZI DI DONNA , caratterizzata da particolari trecce che si mescolano in direzioni diverse lungo tutta la sua lunghezza, è ispirata alla tradizione popolare siciliana delle trecce benaugurali per i neonati, che si dice fossero realizzate dalle “Donne di Fora”: figure sospese tra magia e protezione, un po’ streghe e un po’ madrine. Le trecce, regalo simbolo della loro benevolenza, venivano donate senza poter essere disfatte, per non spezzare il legame magico tra il mondo dei vivi e quello del fantastico. Solo le Donne di Fora potevano scioglierle, quando lo ritenevano opportuno per il bambino.

La stola si avvia con un i-cord, da cui si riprendono le maglie per iniziare il motivo a costa - la base su cui si sviluppano colonne di trecce alternate a maglie cadute. Queste ultime, delimitate da maglie ritorte, vengono impostate nel primo ferro e lavorate a legaccio per tutta la lunghezza. Al termine, si può scegliere tra due opzioni: lasciare cadere le maglie, creando leggerezza e movimento tra le colonne di trecce, oppure mantenerle sul ferro e chiuderle con un i-cord, per un effetto più compatto e casual, adatto anche a uno stile maschile.

The TRIZZI DI DONNA stole, characterized by distinctive braids twisting in different directions along its entire length, is inspired by the Sicilian folk tradition of good-luck braids for newborns. These were said to be made by the “Donne di Fora” - mystical women who stood between magic and protection, part witches and part godmothers. The braids, a symbolic gift of their goodwill, were given in such a way that they could not be undone, so as not to break the magical link between the world of the living and the world of fantasy. Only the Donne di Fora could unravel them, when they deemed it necessary for the child.

The stole begins with an i-cord cast-on, from which stitches are picked up to start a ribbing pattern—the base from which columns of braids alternate with dropped stitches. These dropped stitches, framed by twisted stitches, are set up in the first row and worked in garter stitch throughout the length of the piece.

At the end, you have two options: let the stitches drop, creating lightness and movement between the braid columns; or keep the stitches on the needle and bind off with an i-cord, for a more compact, casual look, suitable even for a masculine style.
