The story behind this pattern:
PINE CONE
I think “troost”* is such a beautiful word. To me, the o’s represent a kind of embrace, and the t’s form a solid boundary around the word.
For me, the word “troost” is comforting in itself.
But when I really can’t comfort myself, when the sadness is too great, I imagine myself sitting inside a pine cone. It’s so peaceful, warm, soft and burgundy red in there. While the outside is hard, safe, sturdy and brown. I literally feel a warm, safe blanket falling over me.
And then? Then I play the soft, comforting notes of “Sleeping Lotus” by Joep Beving on my piano.
What do you do when it all gets too much?
troost: means comfort in Dutch
