The True North Mittens are inspired by the beautiful natural colors of Badgerface Fiber’s Icelandic yarn. Three simple colors, arranged in two simple patterns produce something elegant and intricate. These mittens look much more complicated than they are - the colorwork demands only two colors per row! So pick your favorite three colors, and get knitting.

And, if you ever have the pleasure of visiting the Getbentz Farm where Badgerface Fiber is produced, take a look at the sheep in a full natural rainbow.*

Yarn
Badgerface Fiber Icelandic DK in 3 colors
Main Color (MC): White; 120-140 yds
Contrast Color 1 (CC1): Gray; 60-70 yds
Contrast Color 2 (CC2): Black; 50-60 yds

Badgerface Fiber Icelandic is a strong and lofty DK weight yarn with a bit of fuzz. If you’re substituting yarn, pick a DK (or heavy fingering) weight yarn that will be equally warm.

Needles
The sample is a small, knit on US1.5.

Different sizes are achieved by adjusting your needle size to achieve the appropriate gauge.

Gauge
Small: 34 st, 33 rows in 4 inches
Medium: 31 st, 30 rows in 4 inches

The mitten size can be made larger simply by using larger needles. The sample is made in a size small, and test knitters have knit larger versions at looser gauge with larger needles.
