Trukfeune hat is, as its name indicated, a fun knitting pattern ! With this hat, I wanted to explore further with brioche stitch and make it twice two-colored. As you may know, two-colored brioche stitch has, usually, a “dominating” color on each side of the work. But both my yarns were so pretty that I would not choose which one should be on the RS. I wanted them both on RS. The result: a lovely checked-board effect of brioche stitch, fun to knit and that gives a lovely rose crown. As for the ribs brim, I made it doubled (folded on itself and reunited as you knit) so it can support the weight of the brioche stitch and keep the forehead warm !

Material

• Yarn : DK weight.

My sample was made with Kamalaine DK (100% mérinos d’Arles, 230 m / 100 g), avril colorway (CC) and Licaloo DK (merinos/cashmere, 210 m / 100 g), cerise colorway (MC).

90 to 140 m of MC and 60 to 110 m of CC . For information, size 59, I used 130 of MC and 90 m of CC (220 m in total)

• Circular needles 3,5 mm (or any size to obtain the right gauge). You will need a extra pair to make the doubled ribs edge (if you do not have the same size as for gauge, half a size under will do the trick).

• A marker for the beginning of the row.

• A crochet hook and a leftover yarn to make a provisional cast on.

Sizes

47, 52, 55, 59, 63 cm of head circumference (where the ribs edge goes usually). This ribs edge includes 3 cm of negative ease, the measure above is in fact the measure taken on the brioche part. If you want a even more tight ribs edge, subtract 3 cm to your measure and choose the size accordingly.

Gauge

16 st x 40 r (or 20 «visible» rows) with pattern brioche stitch = 10x10 cm or 1 repeat of the pattern = 5 cm of width x 6 cm of height, washed, blocked and dry.

Brioche stitch enlarges a lot when washed, but retract once dry. So it is really important to check the gauge to obtain the right size.

Extra

• Each technique used in this pattern has a video link. Those videos are in French, but easily understandable just by watching.

• Brioche is available as charts and row by row.

• This pattern contains an “hair adjustment”. You know, I have really thin hair so I’ve never been bothered by how my hat fits my head. But recently a tester of mine asked me how to adjust the hat because she has really thick and curly hair but wanted the brim to stay put. So I gave a thought about it and tada … hair adjustment is born. The idea is to get enough room for the hair on the “body part” of the hat but a ribs edge at the right size that stays on the forehead. It’s been tested by some of my testers on this pattern, please take a look at their project page and give it a try if you have curly/fuzzy/voluminous hair. Would love feedback about this as I wish to include this on my next patterns, do not hesitate ;)

Le bonnet Trukfeune est, comme son nom l’indique, un tricot fun à faire ! Avec ce modèle j’ai voulu explorer un peu plus le point brioche en le rendant doublement bicolore ! Hé oui, la brioche bicolore a, de base, une couleur dominante sur chaque côté du travail. Mais mes deux couleurs étaient bien trop jolies pour en privilégier une. J’ai donc voulu qu’elles apparaissent toutes les deux sur l’endroit. Cela donne un joli damier de point brioche très amusant à faire et permet une jolie finition en rosace de la couronne. Quant au bord côtes, il est doublé, cela permet à la fois de le renforcer face au poids du point brioche, mais aussi de tenir bien chaud !

Matériel :

Fil : épaisseur DK.

Le modèle de base est en Kamalaine DK (100% mérinos d’Arles, 230 m / 100 g), coloris avril (CC) et en Licaloo DK (mérinos/cachemire, 210 m / 100 g), coloris cerise (CP).

Prévoyez 90 à 140 m de CP et 60 à 110 m de CC . Pour information, taille 59, j’ai utilisé 130 de CP et 90 m de CC (soit 220 m en tout)

• Aiguilles circulaires 3,5 mm (ou toute autre taille vous permettant d’obtenir l’échantillon). Prévoir une seconde paire pour faire le bord côtes doublé (si vous n’avez pas la même taille, une demi-taille en dessous fonctionnera tout aussi bien).

• Un marqueur pour le début de rang.

• Un crochet et un reste de fil pour la méthode de montage provisoire proposée.

** Tailles :

47, 52, 55, 59, 63 cm de circonférence tête (mesure au niveau de la zone où passe le bord côtes d’habitude). Le bord côtes contient 3 cm d’aisance négative inclus, la mesure ci-dessus est en fait le tour du bonnet au niveau du point brioche. Retirez 3 cm à votre mesure si vous préférez un bord côtes serré et choisissez votre taille en fonction de cette mesure minorée.

Échantillon

16 m x 40 rgs (ou 20 rgs «visibles») selon le motif = 10x10 cm ou
bien 1 répétition du motif = 5 cm de large x 6 cm de haut, lavé, bloqué et sec.

Le point brioche s’étale particulièrement, surtout mouillé. Il est donc très important de respecter l’échantillon dès le départ pour obtenir la taille attendue.

Bonus

• Dans ce patron, toutes les techniques utilisées sont accompagnées d’une vidéo tutoriel.

• La partie en point brioche est disponible en diagrammes et en rang par rang.

• Ce patron contient un “ajustement chevelure/crinière”. Vous l’aurez remarqué, j’ai les cheveux vraiment très fins, je n’ai donc jamais eu de souci de bonnet qui ne tient pas sur la tête à cause de mes cheveux. Récemment, une testeuse m’a demandé des conseils pour ajuster son bonnet de manière à ce que le bord côtes reste en place malgré le volume de ses cheveux. J’y ai donc réfléchi et tenté l’expérience avec ce modèle. Tada, l’ajustement crinière était né ! L’idée est d’avoir suffisamment de place au niveau du “corps” du bonnet pour votre chevelure, mais que le bord côte reste en place sur le front. Cet ajustement a été testé pendant l’élaboration de ce patron, je vous invite à regarder les pages projets des testeuses pour vous rendre compte et de ne pas hésiter à l’essayer si vous avez des cheveux bouclés/crépus/volumineux. J’adorerai un petit retour à ce sujet, alors n’hésitez pas à m’envoyer un petit mail au support pour me faire part de votre expérience. Cela me permettra de l’inclure dans tous mes patrons de bonnet à l’avenir (et de l’améliorer, le cas échéant) ;).

Je ne recommanderais pas ce patron à une personne débutante en point brioche. N’hésitez pas à essayer n’importe quel patron gratuit avec du point brioche avant, pour vous faire la main et comprendre le principe du point.
