This afghan works up quickly and couldn’t be sweeter or more snuggly. Pictured in Yarn Bee Toasty Sweet (Apricot Jam) this piece is reminiscent of the Sonoran Desert at sunset.

A filet crochet grid is outlined with front-post treble crochets and back/front-loop-only rows to give it structure and pop. Though this is sized for a child, increase or decrease the initial chain row by multiples of 12 sts to make the blanket any size you like. This would look smart in a single color, or in stripes that change with the three-row checkerboard grid. The simple border echoes the grid design, with a reverse-sc rope as a final touch.
