Here in Tofino, or “Tuff City,” as some of the locals call it, gumboots are year-round attire and for the ultimate comfort, wool knee socks are the best to wear under them. These cozy Tuff Boot Socks in fingering weight will keep your feet and legs dry and warm and are pretty enough to show off.

This is the fingering weight version of my “mostly vanilla” Tuff Boot Socks pattern, great for a knitter with some experience making socks and features straightforward increases and decreases to create the perfect proportional fit - please read it in its entirety to determine where you might adapt it to fit your own proportions better (e.g. add or subtract from increase or decrease rows). For a motivated beginner, it’s the perfect project to help you learn a few new skills.

If the best size for you is not included in the instructions, please add or subtract multiples of 8 stitches to the cast on and go from there!

Please be mindful to check your gauge. Every knitter is different and you may need a different sized needle to get the best tension.
