This fichu was featured in Der Bazar and La Mode in 1863. It is the earliest bosom wrap I’ve seen in Tunisian crochet, and it is not intended to wrap around the sides of the torso.

While looking at patterns from the United States, I have not found a crochet bosom wrap prior to 1866. That year, Peterson’s Magazine published three Tunisian sontags.
