The pattern was produced to replicate the Turku stockings, knit with fine silk yarn and date back to c. 1650. The stockings are part of the collection of The Turku Cathedral Museum, Finland.
This participatory research project was part of ‘Refashioning the Renaissance: Popular Groups and the Material and Cultural Significance of Clothing in Europe 1550–1650’, a five-year research project at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland.
