Tursas mittens are a part of my series of swirly mittens. I drew swirl patterns initially inspired by hair but some of the swirls ended up resembling other things. In this case, tentacles. And so the squid pattern was born. With this pattern, I wanted to share my charts and notes with other knitters.

The mittens are worked cuff-up and feature an afterthought thumb.

This pattern includes the charts and a brief outline on how the sample mittens were knit. You will need to have previous knowledge on mitten construction because this is not a comprehensive pattern.

Skills needed:

  • Working in the round
  • Working from charts
  • Stranded colourwork
  • Experience with mittens
  • Afterthought thumb

The sample mittens were knit with fingering weight yarn, but you can substitute sport weight for a larger size. The sample mittens used about 40 grams of each MC and CC.
